ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Sept. 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sonoco ThermoSafe has announced a rapid expansion of its Pegasus ULD fleet, accessible through direct rental from Sonoco or through its growing global network of strategic partner airlines and carriers.

Every day, pharmaceutical companies and their logistics service providers are faced with decisions on how best to transport high-value healthcare shipments around the world efficiently and cost-effectively. Choosing the right airline and temperature-controlled packaging solutions can make all the difference in delivering on-time, temperature-controlled shipments that ultimately need to be safe for patients.

Sonoco ThermoSafe is pleased to add another selection. The Pegasus ULD is in a class of its own as the only advanced passive aircraft-certified Temperature Controlled Container (TCC). The Pegasus container is a Unit Load Device (ULD), meaning it is classified as aircraft equipment and will be locked in the aircraft’s lower hold without the need to place the container on a PMC (aircraft pallet) or use straps and nets to secure it it on the PMC before loading it onto the aircraft. Without these additional steps, Pegasus ULD shipments speed through airports avoiding delays in customs and ground handling services at the lowest possible cost.

Stations within Sonoco’s global service network include partnerships with ACL Airshop, Unilode Aviation Solutions and Focus WFS where the Pegasus ULD fleet is stocked and available for launch today. Each station is an FAA 145 facility capable of performing required ULD maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) in accordance with regulatory aviation safety requirements. Each station also conducts ground services to include the preconditioning of PCM (phase change material) cylinders in the temperature-controlled chambers available on-site.

The list of airlines that have approved the Pegasus ULD for lift on their aircraft is growing; just to name a few including American, Asiana, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific, Delta, Korean Air, LATAM, Qatar Airways, Singapore, Swiss, Turkish and United. Pharmaceutical companies can also contact their logistics service providers for assistance with Pegasus ULD containers and book air freight through one of these airlines.

Because sustainability is a key consideration for pharmaceutical manufacturers throughout their business and operations, the Pegasus ULD offers a reusable packaging solution that dramatically reduces landfill and moves away from single-use pallet packaging.
