PM Modi to address environment ministers in Gujarat on Friday | Latest News India


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the National Conference of Environment Ministers in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat on Friday and discuss climate change, the ban on single-use plastics, a pro-environmental lifestyle and other policies, the government said on Wednesday.

“The conference is convened to create further synergies between central and state governments to develop better policies on issues such as eliminating plastic pollution through a multi-pronged approach and government action plans to effectively combat climate change with a focus on LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment to formulate . It will also focus on increasing forest cover, with particular emphasis on restoring degraded land and protecting wildlife,” the union’s Environment Department said in a statement.

The two-day conference will be organized on September 23-24 and will include six thematic sessions focusing on LiFE, combating climate change (updating government action plans on climate change to mitigate emissions and adapt to climate impacts); PARIVESH (Single Window System for Integrated Green Clearances) ; forestry ; pollution prevention and control; nature management ; Plastics and Waste Management among others, the statement added.

One of the main points of discussion will be the new format of the Parivesh website, which will be used by user organizations such as industry and mining companies to request various clearances, including forest, wildlife, coastal and environmental clearance.

“As announced in the Union Budget 2022-2023, PARIVESH with expanded scope is in an advanced stage of testing and preparation,” the ministry said.

“A number of key functionalities such as the Common Application Form (CAF), the GIS-driven Know-your-Approval (KYA) & Decision Support System (DSS), compliance modules and other functions are essential for a transparent, scientific and expeditious evaluation of the project proposals included while ensuring compliance with environmental protection measures,” she added.

It is also proposed to seamlessly integrate the Parivesh website with the GatiShakti portal to facilitate understanding of the project proposals related to environment, forest, wildlife and CRZ clearance that may be involved in such projects.

HT reported Wednesday that the Department of the Environment has begun revising the process of considering and granting forest clearings to bring the process in line with the Forest Conservation Rules 2022 and time-bound permits for diverting forests to various infrastructure or mining projects granted.
