The San Siro will host a replay of Euro 2020 Final when Roberto Mancini’s Italy meet England in Friday night’s penultimate game of the group.
However, the Three lions come into play after a poor Nations League season in 2022, having failed to win any of their four games in June.
A 1-0 defeat in Hungary was followed by a draw in Germany thanks to a late Harry Kane penalty, ahead of a lackluster 0-0 draw at Molineux against Italy and a miserable performance in the 4-0 defeat by Hungary at the same venue.
Italy drew with Germany and England on both sides to beat Hungary in their first three Group A3 games before losing 5-2 in the second leg to Germany last time out.
The reigning European champion is third, two points behind the leader of the table Germany and three points ahead of England on the relegation zone. “Anything can happen in this group,” Mancini said. “It wasn’t comfortable losing 5-2 in the last game, but even then I saw some positive signs.”
England need to avoid defeat in Milan or face relegation to League B of the competition, making Friday’s clash even more appetizing as all the ingredients for a thrilling UEFA Nations League competition are in place at the San Siro where the action will be Kick-off at 2:45 pm EDT/ 11:45 am PDT on Friday 23 September 2022 for viewers in the US or at 19:45 (BST) in the UK.
