Innovation the focus in November – Bundaberg Now

Surf scientist Ruben Meerman, Shark Tank Australia’s Glen Richards, QUT’s Rowena Barrett and RedEye’s Wayne Gerard will be some of the innovators attending November’s Hinkler Innovation Series events.

The month of November will be an important showcase for innovation and entrepreneurship as the Hinkler Innovation Series and a collaboration of events across the region begin.

Experts from the national innovation field, including Shark Tank’s Glen Richards, Surfing Scientist Ruben Meerman, QUT’s Derek Richard and Wayne Gerard, Chief Entrepreneur of Queensland and co-founder of RedEye, will travel to the region to participate in activities aimed at Community members to win think big.

Mayor Jack Dempsey said that Monday, November 7 through Friday, November 11, students and aspiring entrepreneurs alike would be treated to a range of specialized activities to help shape ideas, concepts and designs while providing inspiration for the future Offer.

“Innovation and technology play such an important role in shaping our region and with that in mind, Council is always ready and willing to champion more opportunities in this space for our bright young future leaders,” he said.

“From networking events with leading Australian tech and innovation rock stars to challenges, business tours and more – there will be plenty to get involved in.”

MONDAY 7 NOVEMBER TO FRIDAY 11 NOVEMBER:

school visits

  • Surf scientist Ruben Meerman and Scientific Director of the QUT – Cancer and Aging Research Program Derek Richard will lead the week of school visits in the area.
    The dynamic duo will share their fascinating insights into genetics (who we are and the world we live in) and the science behind carbon exhalation and weight loss.

WEDNESDAY 9 NOVEMBER:

ACS Bundaberg Chapter Presents: Tech Leader’s Fireside Chat

  • This event will bring together a range of innovators and technology professionals who will share their career achievements, challenges and insights into cutting-edge emerging technologies. The panel will provide valuable advice and invite you to ask questions about your burning tech career, leadership or technology project this evening. The event also provides a valuable networking opportunity for Bundaberg’s local technology and business communities.

THURSDAY 10 NOVEMBER:

Hinkler innovation series

•This popular breakfast, hosted by Bundaberg Regional Council, brings together a panel of judges for the Hinkler Hotseat, a themed event where select local innovators have the opportunity to showcase their big technology ideas.
• Glen Richards from Shark Tank Australia will be part of the jury alongside local judges.

Challenge of Social Innovation

•Participants will work in teams and engage in ideation, design thinking, Arduino programming and prototyping to solve a problem suggested by a person with a disability. The teams present their solution to a panel of experts.

FRIDAY 11 NOVEMBER

Entrepreneurship Immerse Day

• This joint collaboration between Queensland University of Technology and CQUniversity will be an immersive, experiential, problem-solving challenge, similar to sprints, challenges and bootcamps run by tech giants like Google and Amazon. Students will participate in a quick ideation session using design thinking principles and develop a range of possible entrepreneurial solutions.
When: 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., Bundaberg Multiplex.
