Healthcare Workers to Strike at For-Profit Healthcare

ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ANAHEIM, California. – Citing concerns about a range of unfair labor practices, as well as concerns about employee and patient safety, staff shortages and low wages, healthcare workers at six KPC Health Inc. facilities will step down and stand on an unfair labor practices strike line 6 a.m. on Monday, September 26th.

Employees at KPC Health Inc. facilities say conditions for nurses and patients at their facility are dire as management ignores concerns about understaffing and working conditions. Workers are concerned about the safety of patients and staff and say they have been pushed to their limits by their employer.

“We voted to go on strike because we want to end KPC’s unfair labor practices and because we care about patient safety. We have respiratory therapists who sometimes have to care for up to 40 patients, 17 of whom are on ventilators,” said Mychelle Ramey, respiratory therapist at South Coast Global Medical Center. “Our patients and community deserve better. We are exhausted and overwhelmed and feel that management is ignoring our concerns. KPC needs to invest more in the caregivers who have kept this community alive and ensure the hospital has adequate staffing levels that are safe for staff and patients.”

The strike vote applies to a variety of professional classes across six facilities, including respiratory therapists, licensed occupational nurses, certified nursing assistants, radiology technologists, hospitality workers, operating room and emergency room technicians, secretaries, transporters and admissions workers.
