Subsequent to Hack GTA 6the industry and gaming community were left in the dark, wondering if the source code for both GTA5 and GTA 6 was actually compromised or if the hacker played a bluff to demand money from potential buyers and Take-Two Interactive. It appears that the hacker or group of hackers were not bluffing when code appeared on the internet. Let’s get straight to today’s news.
The source code of GTA 5 is on GitHub and on the web!
After a few days of wondering and speculating about the massive scandal and hack by hackers and GTAForums user teapot, the source code of GTA 5 seems to have been compromised with certainty. It was that close last week 90 videos surfaced online with the pre-alpha build material for GTA 6.
Claims by the hacker and subsequent impersonators have implied that both GTA 5 and 6 source code were stolen during the Rockstar Games Hack that took place via a bit of social hacking. An employee was tricked into revealing their login and user information for Rockstar’s GTA 6 development Relaxed Group. So far it appears that significant parts of the GTA 5 source code have been compromised and at the moment there is no sign or evidence of the GTA 6 code appearing on the internet.
The situation is certainly quite difficult to understand, and verifying claims is different. Every day new accounts pop up on user forums and Twitter claiming to be the elusive hacker behind it.
In private dialogues and conversations, several modders, developers and hackers have stated that if these files are indeed legitimate, they could potentially pose a major threat to GTA 5’s networks and security. gta online, and GTA6.
To add to the story further, a GitHub user by name 100k source posted a new push request that contains even more previously unseen code, meaning that the hacker or hacking group has shared the source code with multiple people.
One person even went so far as to claim that there is a reasonable degree of certainty that the claims are indeed genuine. But it is only possible to check whether Rockstar and take two interactive Check the claims regarding the source code, but that’s not going to happen any time soon. But in other news, Rockstar Games has stated that by and large there will be no major problems in the development of GTA 6.
We recently suffered a network breach where an unauthorized third party illegally accessed our systems and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development material for the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time we do not expect any disruption to our live game services or any long-term impact on the development of our ongoing projects.
We are very disappointed that we shared all the details of our next game with you in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game continues as planned and, as always, we are committed to providing you, our players, with an experience that truly exceeds your expectations. We’ll be bringing everyone back up to speed soon, and of course, we’ll be giving you a proper introduction to this next game when it’s ready. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support during this situation – Rockstar Games
GTAForums also has some interesting information to share. A few hours ago it was confirmed that the original account on the forum was run by two independent users. While this isn’t a major update, it does suggest that the hacker didn’t perform the hack and major leak himself. Rather, the finger points to the hacker group lapse$ and the claim that the group was behind it may indeed be legitimate. If this is indeed the case, the disputed files and source code could show up on the internet at any time, regardless of whether the original hacker is caught or not.
After an internal review of the past week’s events, we have come to several tentative conclusions. First, we have reason to believe that at least two people may have been active on the teapotuberhacker account based on the posting behavior and IP address data. One is the actual original leaker, “Teapot”, and the other is nicknamed “Lily”. “Teapot” was responsible for the initial posts about the hacked content. “Lily” is the one who makes the posts regarding the @lilyhowarth Telegram account, which is active to this day. We have evidence that suggests the GTAF account was shared rather than stolen.
We have seen Telegram screenshots of messages posted by “Lily” showing delaying tactics and misinformation about the GTAF account and without any activity on the account since Sunday we have no reason to believe at this time “Lily” currently owns chopped materials they claim to possess. We strongly discourage clicking, sharing, or downloading posts by “Lily” or anyone else in the Telegram group.
We believe that:
“Teapot” and “Lily” worked together and both accessed the account in GTAForums
“Teapot” made the posts about hacked materials, “Lily” made the posts about a new Telegram account
The account has not been accessed since Sunday evening
We currently have no reason to believe that “Lily” is in possession of any hacked material
We’ve locked the other thread regarding this to minimize misinformation – GTA Forums
Regardless of whether the source code reaches the Internet or private individuals, this can have devastating consequences for the games in question. It’s the equivalent of leaving the door wide open and putting up a sign to do whatever everyone wants.
But not only Rockstar and Take-Two are affected, the commuter company, Above claims that the hacking group Laspsus$ is behind all these attacks. Lapsus$ have made a name for themselves as the entity behind the fiascos surrounding information compromise by large corporations like this one Samsung, NVIDIA and Microsoft.
Uber states that the company works closely with the FBI and the US Ministry of Justice and will continue to support their efforts.
So what do you think of this whole GTA 5 source code fiasco that’s being put in the spotlight shortly after the first GTA 6 leak? Are Lily and Tea Pot the same person or not and are they working with $lapsus? There’s a lot of information that doesn’t have answers, but we’ll update you as soon as we find out. Until then, share your views in the comments below. We’re uploading to Appuals daily, so stay tuned for more. See you later and goodbye.
